Robert J. Hommel

Robert HommelRobert J. Hommel is an Arizona trial lawyer with 30 years of experience dealing with insurance companies and injury claims. It takes exceptional fortitude to battle with adversaries that command the resources that insurance companies have to resist your claim. Bob’s philosophy is to take fewer cases, and give them personal attention by a lawyer, because that is what it takes to achieve the results you deserve. Bob is also an active supporter of individuals and organizations that promote the integrity and full measure of justice in our courts. In a business climate that is ever changing, it is important to stay on top of these changes, and to remain a student of the art of trial practice and other great trial lawyers.

Raised as a first generation American, “duty hung on every wall.” After serving in the U.S. Navy, Bob attended law school at the University of Denver, and was admitted to the practice of law in 1983. He was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award in Constitutional Law and was a Harold Widney scholar. As a law student he worked in the University’s Student Law Office representing clients that could not afford to pay for legal representation.

That experience, taught him a deep respect for the privileges and responsibilities inherent in our legal system. The freedoms and responsibilities secured by trial lawyers over the history of the United States should remain available for every generation of Americans. The most important among these are our right to vote, the right to have disputes determined by a jury of our peers in an impartial court of law, and the freedoms established in the Bill of Rights.

Since arriving in Arizona in 1984, he has had an active trial practice. Bob Hommel has tried cases in federal and state courts, as well as before administrative agencies. He has achieved successful jury verdicts for his clients in cases involving insurance bad faith, wrongful death, products liability, motor vehicle negligence, civil rights protected by 42 USC §1983, and other personal injury claims. He has litigated hundreds of workers’ compensation cases before the Industrial Commission of Arizona.

Bob has also been published in a national trade journal on insurance bad faith. He has testified as an expert witness in workers’ compensation insurance bad faith. Bob also collaborates with some of the pre-eminent legal authorities in the country dealing with issues of insurance bad faith and corporate malfeasance.

Bob Hommel is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum for achieving jury verdicts in excess of $1,000,000.00. Fewer than 1% of US attorneys are members. He previously worked as an insurance defense attorney for multiple insurance companies, and also represented the State of Arizona, Department of Insurance, Property & Casualty Insurance Guarantee Fund. He is certified by the State Bar of Arizona as a specialist for workers’ compensation issues.

Bob is admitted to practice in the states of Arizona and Colorado. He is a member of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), AAJ Insurance Section, AAJ Bad Faith Group, and the Arizona Association for Justice (AZAJ).

He has also remained active in community service organizations. He was Vice Chairman/Board Member of Jerry Colangelo’s Southwest Leadership Foundation, and continues to work as an advocate for abused/neglected/abandoned girls and teen moms, through CHILDHELP. He works with Partners in Action, an organization providing relief to children orphaned by AIDS in Swaziland, Africa. He is a board member of Rehoboth Community Development Corporation, and a contributor to Paradise Valley Young Life-Teen Moms and the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration.
